Women’s Basketball vs. Concordia-Selma, Men’s Basketball vs. Morehouse canceled
Both individual home basketball games scheduled for this week featuring the Tuskegee University men’s and women’s basketball teams at home inside the Daniel ‘Chappie’ James Center have been canceled. The scheduled games included tonight’s women’s basketball game vs. Concordia-Selma, as well as Thursday’s men’s basketball game against Morehouse College.
The men’s basketball game was canceled late last week, as scheduling conflicts began to pop up unfavorably against the Golden Tigers. The home game against Morehouse was the unfortunate victim of the scheduling conflict, as teams in the SIAC’s West Division are only required to play teams in the SIAC’s East Division one time in conference play each year. Tuskegee fulfilled its’ conference obligation to playing Morehouse when the Golden Tigers suffered their worst loss of the season against the Maroon Tigers in a 79-51 setback Jan. 5 in Atlanta.
The women’s basketball game was canceled in the 11th hour, as scheduling conflicts popped up on Monday, with the visiting team experiencing internal issues with attempting to make the trip. The Tigerettes are currently on an 11-game winning streak, with all of their victories coming in conference play.
Both the Tigerettes (14-6 overall) and Golden Tigers (10-11 overall) will next play on the road in Tuscaloosa this Saturday night against Stillman College. The Tuskegee teams completed a home sweep of Stillman inside the Chappie James Center on Jan. 28, as both teams wrapped up a four-game home stand with the women earning a 66-51 victory, and men earning a 79-66 win.
The Tuskegee University Department of Athletics apologizes to the fans, faculty and staff that were anticipating these match-ups, and will ensure that due diligence is done to avoid similar inconveniences in the near future.
