Tuskegee tennis and track teams set for conference championships


TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee University tennis and track and field teams, men and women, completed the 2011 regular-season on last Saturday.  The TU teams are set for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championships in Atlanta, Ga., hosted by Morehouse College.  The competition gets underway on Thursday morning, April 14 and ends on Saturday evening, April 16.

The Tuskegee women’s tennis team finished the regular-season at 13-11 and the men ended the year with a 7-15 record. 

In the 8-team women’s bracket, the Lady Golden Tigers are seeded #3 and will play #6 Stillman in their opening match on Thursday at 12:00 noon ET at the McGhee Tennis Center. 

The Golden Tigers, seeded #5 among the seven conference teams, will face #4 Benedict at 9:00 a.m. ET on Thursday morning at the McGhee Tennis Center.

The matches for Friday and Saturday will be played at the Morehouse Tennis Courts.

The Tuskegee women their last conference title in 2009, their 12th SIAC championship in school history.  The Tuskegee men captured their last title in 2008, their 29th conference crown in the history of men’s tennis at Tuskegee.

Track and field competition at Morehouse’s B. T. Harvey Stadium will start on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. ET with the decathlon and end on Saturday at 5:35 p.m. with the running of the 4 X 400 meter relay for men.
