Tuskegee releases 2011 football schedule

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Two NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams and a NCAA playoff participant highlight the 2011 Tuskegee University football schedule released today by athletic director Alvin R. Jackson.

The ten-game schedule includes four home contests (Langston, Stillman, Clark Atlanta and Miles), two classics (Morehouse, Alabama State), two new opponents (NAIA Langston and Alabama A&M) and two football championship subdivision foes from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (Alabama A&M and Alabama State).

The Golden Tigers will kickoff the season on Sept. 10, hosting the Langston University Lions from Langston, Okla.  In the only matchup of the two teams, Tuskegee defeated NAIA Langston 27-24 at Abbott Stadium in 2006.

The Golden Tigers will make their first visit in twelve years to Huntsville, Ala., to play the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University on Sept. 17.  Tuskegee and Alabama A&M met in the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., in 2008 and 2009.

Tuskegee will open up conference-play on Sept. 24 when the Stillman Tigers come to Abbott Stadium.

The next four games will be on the road.  The Golden Tigers will meet Fort Valley State on Oct. 1 and then face the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College in the 76th Annual Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic in Columbus, Ga., on Oct. 8 at A. J. McClung Memorial Stadium.  The Maroon Tigers played in the first round of the NCAA II football playoffs last year.  Tuskegee will travel to Lane College on Oct. 15 and Kentucky State University on Oct. 22 to close out a four-game road stretch.

The Golden Tigers will have a two-game home stand, hosting the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University on Oct. 29 and the Golden Bears of Miles College on Nov. 5.  Tuskegee will celebrate Homecoming when the Golden Bears come to town on Nov. 5.

The SIAC will stage its championship game, East Champ vs. West Champ, on Nov. 12 at a site to be determined.  Because of the championship game, each conference team will play a 10-game regular-season schedule.

The annual Thanksgiving Day showdown between the Golden Tigers and the Hornets of Alabama State University, ending the 2011 regular-season, will be played on Nov. 24 at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.  The 2011 game marks the 88th playing of the Turkey Day Football Classic.

The Golden Tigers, winner of four consecutive SIAC titles (2006-2009), ended the 2010 season at 9-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
