Nelson to play in all-star game
ATLANTA, Ga. — The World Basketball Association (WBA) recently announced their roster of participants for the 8th Annual Historical Black College All-Star Classic (HBCAC). Six players from the SIAC were selected to play, including Andrae Nelson of Tuskegee University, Eric Salley of Claflin University, Kevin Johnson of Stillman College, Jelani Figures of Morehouse College as well as Najee Lane and David Brown of Clark Atlanta University.
Nelson, a 6-6 center from Selma, Ala., averaged 12.9 points per game while finishing in the top five of the SIAC with 7.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Nelson is a two-time All-SIAC selection.
Salley, a 6-0 guard from Smoaks, SC, averaged 24.3 points per game this season, which led the SIAC. As junior and senior, Salley was an All-SIAC first team selection.
Johnson, a 6-8 center from Akron, Ala., averaged 11 points and was second in the SIAC with nine rebounds and three blocked shot per game. Johnson was a key contributor on a Stillman team that made it to the south regional final in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
Figures, a 6-5 guard from Mobile, AL, averaged 9.3 points per game this season while shooting over 40 percent from the 3-point line. As a junior, Figures was a second team All-SIAC selection.
Brown, a 6-4 guard from College Park, GA, averaged 15.5 points per game, earning All-SIAC second team honors this season. Lane, a 6-4 guard/forward from Trenton, NJ, averaged 18.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game this season. He is a two-time All-SIAC first selection and was the SIAC Player of the Year as a junior. In 2011, Brown and Lane helped lead Clark Atlanta to their first SIAC tournament title since 1965 with both earning All-Tournament honors. Brown was also named Tournament MVP.

Prior to the all-star basketball game, fans can also attend the SIAC Women’s Softball Championship Tournament at the South Commons Softball Complex adjacent to the Civic Center and Memorial Stadium.
