Lady Golden Tigers end softball season, 24-18


TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Lady Golden Tigers wrapped up the 2012 softball season, winning 4-of-6 games in the SIAC Softball Championship Tournament this past weekend in Hampton, Ga.

Sophomore pitcher Latifah Kelly (21-l4) led the Golden Tigers to a 2-0 shutout of the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta in game one.  She struckout 12 batters, holding the Panthers to two hits.

The Lady Golden Tigers lost to the Lady Tigers of Stillman in game two, 7-5.  The loss placed the ladies into the loser’s bracket with a matchup with the Lady Dragons of Lane.  In a 12-hit attack, TU dismantled the Dragons 16-4 in five innings.   Kelly improved her tournament pitching record to 2-1.

In the next two tournament games, the Lady Golden Tigers blanked Paine College 6-0 and Fort Valley State 2-0.  Kelly was the winning pitchers in each game, striking out 19 batters and allowing 6 hits in 14 innings.

The Lady Golden Tigers met the Lady Bears of Miles in their sixth game of the tournament.  The Lady Bears ended TU’s tournament play with a 9-1 setback.   Kelly struckout 5 batters, bringing her tournament total to 49 and season total to 232.  She was named to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Golden Tigers completed the 2012 season with a 24-18 overall record.
