Lady Golden Tigers advance in SIAC softball tournament


COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lady Golden Tigers improved their 2011 softball record to 25-13-1 on Thursday evening with a 4-2 victory over the Lady Lions of Paine College in the opening round of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament.

The SIAC West Division Champion Lady Golden Tigers scored one run in the first inning, two in the third and one in the fifth, while holding the Lady Lions to single runs in the first and seventh innings. 

Tameria Brown drove in two runs and Kristen O’Neal belted her fourth home run of the season with a left field shot in the fifth inning.

Jennifer Taylor pitched a complete game, improving her record to 9-7.  She struck out nine batters, allowed one earned run and five hits.

The Lady Golden Tigers will face the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta at 2:00 p.m. ET on Friday.  The Lady Panthers edged the Lady Rams of Albany State, 7-6, to set up the matchup with the Lady Golden Tigers.
