Golden Tigers land four on preseason SIAC football team
TUCKER, Ga. - The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2012 Preseason Football All-Conference Team and Predicted Order of Finish on Tuesday at the conference's annual football kickoff luncheon. Leading the selection for the Golden Tigers on the first team was junior punter Gene Stewart Moody and punt return specialist Mark Hughes.
In 2011, Moody punted 58 times for 2267 yards for an average of 39.1. He placed 14 punts inside the 20 and had a long of 69. Hughes returned four kickoffs for 143 yards and four punts for 22 yards. He averaged 35.8 yards per kickoff and 5.5 yards per punt return.
Senior defensive lineman Adontavius Turner and sophomore defensive lineman Aaron Bennett were second team defensive picks. Turner tallied 23 tackles, had seven tackles for 21 yards in losses, recorded two quarterback sacks, one quarterback hurry and recovered one fumble in 2011. Bennett registered 25 stops and 10 tackles for losses for 23 yards. Additionally, he had one quarterback sack, one QB hurry, a forced fumble, a safety and two broken up passes.
Tuskegee, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Willie Slater, was picked to finish second among the five teams in the SIAC West Division.
