Foye pitches no-hitter
TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Freshman pitchers Karisa Foye and Latifah Kelly tossed shutouts against Lane College at the women’s softball field at Tuskegee University.
Foye blanked the Lady Dragons 19-0, pitching a no-hitter. It was the first no-hitter at the Lady Golden Tigers’ new softball facility. Foye faced 17 batters, striking out 11 of them in a game lasting only five innings because of the 8-run lead after five.
The Shorter, Ala., native, improved her strikeout total to 106 and her pitching record to 10-4 on the season. She was named SIAC West Pitcher of the Week for March 21-27.
Tuskegee (16-11, 11-5 SIAC) pounded the Lady Dragons with 19 hits, including a homerun by Foye in the second inning, three doubles and two triples. Kristen O’Neal and Megan Moore each had three hits for the Lady Golden Tigers.
Kelly (1-1), the winning pitcher in the second game, shutout the Lady Dragons 8-0 in a five- inning game. It was Kelly’s first start at home and only her fifth appearance of the year. She struck out four batters and allowed only four hits.
Jennifer Taylor had three hits and Tameria Brown and Denavia Harrison each had two to pace the Lady Golden Tigers. Harrison, who drove in four runs, cracked a three-run homer in the first inning.
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday, starting at 12:00 noon.
